Figure and Character Sculpting Blog
Week 1
Start of the Class/Blog
Hello! I am happy to be able to take the clay class this semester. Here is where I have my blog posts, updates on the project, along with images. I hope you find this interesting.
Week 2
Adding the Bones

For the first time in a while touching clay, I had a fun time. I learned a lot on the first day along with figuring out the technicalities of everything. For making the clay sculpture I spent a good amount of time figuring out how to portion everything from the head to arms, legs, and everything else. I would have to say I had some difficulty with the hands, feet, and jaw but I am pleased with how they turned out. For the sketches, I have drawn skeletons a couple of times. I had done it a couple of times before I was happy with how they turned out. It made me step out of my comfort zone doing it for a class. Overall, I enjoyed this assignment, and gives me an escape to be creative.
Week 3
The Bones
This week I want to get more done with my sculpture. I did complete the arms and legs and fixed the ribs. I originally had too many ribs and took away some of them. I also worked on getting the arms to move up and down without having the clay move as well. I had worked on fixing the pelvis bones while making them wider.
Week 4
Muscles on the Legs
-
I have been playing catch up but for this week I had made muscles on the legs.
Week 5
Arm Muscles
I had been working on the arm and torso muscles while still catching up.
Week 6
Other Muscles
This week I was working on adding in feet/hands/and other add-ons.
Week 7
Final Human Armature
This is my final creation of the Human Armature. I added muscle to half of the sculpt and the other half are the bones.
Week 8
Preperation of the 3 Character Sculpture
I have chosen to mash up an octopus, a raccoon, and a dragonfly. With different ideas, I thought this would be fun. A land animal, a water animal, and an air animal. I came up with the name Racapus Fly for funzies.
Week 9
Start of Sculpt
I started with making the wire base while also starting on the bones. I started first on the skull and went from there.
Week 10
Racapus Fly Bones
I finished up all of the bones. Technically the tentacles aren't bones so I improvised by doing joins through the tentacles. I added some fun add-ons for fun too.
Week 11
Starting the Muscles
I decided to put muscle over the whole sculpture instead of just going for the half-and-half look. I also started adding on the suction cups (there are a lottttt).
Week 12
Finishing the Muscle
I finished adding the muscle onto the sculpture which has a muscle-like texture all over.
Week 13
Starting the Skin
I started adding the skin to the tentacles. I wanted it to look similar to the vampire octopus since they have flaps on their tentacles.
Week 14
Working on The Wings
I had thought to add skin to the front of the wings but keep the back open so you could still see the "veins"/"cartilage" on them.
Week 15
Finishing Touches
I have been working on adding final touches to the skin, fur, and suction cups. I also made some fun add ons to put on the board for fun.
Final Products
The Final Racaopus Fly
I had a lot of fun creating this sculpture and have had the opportunity to his this creative outlet.
